The Band

TIM MASHRythm Guitar, Lead Vocal, Harmony, Band Leader
I’ve lived in Durham Region my entire life and grew up singing in choirs, which sparked a lifelong love of music. I’ve been playing guitar for over 25 years and formed my first band in 2005. Since then, we’ve been performing as The Shades of Grey Band, with a few lineup changes along the way. What’s always stayed the same is our passion for entertaining and bringing great songs from the past back to life. We love connecting with audiences and sharing music that feels familiar, fun, and full of memories.

DICK BOWIE – Keyboard, Vocal, Harmony
I’ve been playing music for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Nova Scotia without television, making your own music was simply part of life. I played everything from country, military, classical, and jazz before rock ’n’ roll took hold. Like many of us, dances and girls helped fuel that passion, with influences ranging from Elvis, Chuck Berry, and Dion to Little Richard, Buddy Holly, the Beach Boys, and the Beatles. You learned the songs, formed a band, and played wherever you could. While music alone couldn’t always pay the bills, it never left my life. Now, in my retirement years, I’m proud to be part of The Shades of Grey Band, still enjoying the joy of making music and sharing it with audiences.

DOUG STRYPE – Lead Guitar
While growing up in the Scarborough area of Toronto, I was inspired by Chuck Berry, The Beatles, and other greats of the era. I began playing guitar as a teenager, taking lessons to learn chords and strumming before teaching myself by playing along with songs on the radio. After retiring from a busy career, I rediscovered my love for music and guitar, studying with Frank Burnett, who helped connect music theory to the songs I enjoy. That renewed passion led me to Tim Mash, who invited me to join The Shades of Grey Band—a wonderful experience centered around the music I love to play.
